The event includes a tour afterwards of the Roosevelt Home Garden at the FDR Home and Presidential Library & Museum in Hyde Park.
Community-supported agriculture is good for farmers, consumers and the environment, said Miriam Latzer of Clermont’s Good Flavor Farm who is leading this workshop.
The workshop will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Henry A. Wallace Visitor & Education Center, FDR Home & Presidential Library, on the grounds of the homestead.
After the workshop, there will be a tour with National Park Service educator Kayla Altland and horticulturist Anna deCordova of the Roosevelt Home Garden.
The garden, once a contributor to the Roosevelts' kitchen was paved over in the 1950s and is being redeveloped as part of the National Park Service centennial celebration.
Altland and deCordova are developing education programs for the home garden.
Latzer is the author of "The School Farm Share Toolkit," a guide for families and school staff interested in local food and making meaningful connections with small local farms.
“CSAs (community supported agriculture) are a great substitute for or supplement to the supermarket, and hosting one at a school can help link farmers, families, students and school staff. Such networks can lead to classroom projects, curricular tie-ins, and maybe even internships or service projects if you have a school garden,” said Latzer.
